A free, one-hour training on veteran suicide prevention is available on September 29 at 2 p.m. Eastern Time (noon in Utah). Any member, family member, or friend of a veteran can attend, in person or online, at no cost.
What it covers
The training is called Talk Saves Lives: Supporting Our Veterans. It is put on by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and is part of The American Legion’s Be the One mission.
In one hour, attendees learn to:
- Understand the scope of suicide among the veteran population
- Recognize warning signs that a veteran may be in distress
- Start a conversation with someone who may be struggling
- Connect a veteran to support while respecting their choices
Who should attend
The session is aimed at anyone who wants to know how to help — not just veterans themselves. Family members, neighbors, and community members are welcome. No background in mental health is required.
How to register
Registration is free and takes only a few minutes. Find the September 29 session and sign up at afsp.org/calendar.
