The American LegionFor wartime veterans and those still serving
If you served at least one day of active duty during a recognized wartime period and were honorably discharged — or are still serving — you’re eligible to join The American Legion and become part of Post 72.
Eligible? Nearly anyone who has worn the uniform since December 7, 1941 qualifies, thanks to the open wartime eligibility dates. Bring your DD‑214 or proof of service.

Sons of The American Legion — Squadron 72For sons, grandsons, and male descendants
Who’s eligible: the sons, grandsons, great‑grandsons, stepsons, and adopted sons of American Legion members — and the male descendants of veterans who died in service or served honorably during an eligible wartime period, even if that veteran never joined the Legion. Because the wartime dates remain open, most families with a qualifying veteran are eligible. Veterans who belong to the Legion are welcome to join the Sons as well.
Joining Squadron 72 is simple:
- Download and complete the Sons of The American Legion application.
- Note the qualifying veteran’s information — their Legion member ID if they’re a member, or proof of their wartime service (such as a DD‑214).
- Bring or mail the completed application, along with the annual dues, to Post 72 — or reach out to our Squadron 72 representative below, who will help you finish enrolling.

American Legion Auxiliary — Unit 72For spouses and female family members of veterans
Who’s eligible: the grandmothers, mothers, sisters, spouses, and direct or adopted female descendants of American Legion members — and of servicemembers who died in service or served honorably during an eligible wartime period. Male spouses of eligible veterans and servicemembers may also join. A woman who is eligible for the Legion in her own right may join the Auxiliary as well.
Joining Unit 72 is simple:
- Download and complete the American Legion Auxiliary application.
- Note the qualifying veteran’s information and your relationship to them (proof of their service, such as a DD‑214, if needed).
- Bring or mail the completed application, along with the annual dues, to Post 72 — or reach out to our Unit 72 representative below, who will help you finish enrolling.
