American Legion Family to Host USA250 Buddy Check Challenge in Provo

March 3, 2026

Goal of 250 Veteran Buddy Checks in Two Days Supports Suicide Prevention and Community Wellness

PROVO, Utah — The American Legion Family for Department of Utah, Area 2 (Salt Lake, Utah & Tooel counties) will host a USA250 Challenge Buddy Check and Be The One event on March 16–17, 2026, at Kiln in Provo, bringing together veterans, families, and community members to support the well-being of those who served.

The event is part of the American Legion Family USA250 Challenge, a nationwide initiative commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026. Communities across the country are participating in service and wellness activities that honor veterans while strengthening local connections.

Utah’s Area 2 effort focuses on Buddy Checks, an outreach initiative where veterans and volunteers contact fellow veterans to check on their well-being, offer support, and connect them with resources if needed.

“Our goal is to complete 250 Buddy Checks in two days,” said Ninzel Rasmuson, Area 2 Commander. “Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do for someone is simply reach out and ask how they are doing.”

The event also supports the American Legion’s national Be The One mission, which works to reduce veteran suicide by encouraging individuals to reach out, listen, and help connect veterans to support networks.

The two-day gathering will promote:

  • Veteran connection and support
  • Mental health awareness
  • Community service
  • Physical and emotional wellness

The event is hosted by American Legion Post 72 in Orem and supported by members of the American Legion Family across Salt Lake, Utah, and Tooele Counties.

Community members are invited to participate and learn more about veteran support programs and outreach opportunities.

Veteran Service Officers are available to assist during both days of the event.
