Orem’s Gold Star Monument Nearing Completion

March 2, 2026

A lasting tribute to military sacrifice is taking shape in the heart of Utah County. The City of Orem is putting the finishing touches on its Gold Star Memorial Monument and Freedom Plaza, located directly outside the new City Hall between City Hall and Library Hall on North State Street.

The monument honors Gold Star Families — those who have lost a loved one in service to our nation — and is described by city leaders as “a sacred place right at the heart of our community.” Orem will be the first city in Utah County to feature such a monument.

The project has been community-driven from the start, with residents, organizations, and local veterans groups stepping up to make it a reality. Among the early supporters, American Legion Post 72 led the way with a generous $4,000 donation. Donors are recognized on a stone wall on the south side of Freedom Plaza.

Championed in part by the Major Brent Taylor Foundation, the monument stands approximately 8 feet tall, features a life-size silhouette of a soldier, and is crafted from granite on a concrete pedestal — a style welcomed in communities across Utah.

As construction nears its end, the monument stands as a powerful reminder that the price of freedom is never forgotten here in Utah County.
