Our History
American Legion Post 72 has been a cornerstone of the Orem, Utah community for decades, providing support, camaraderie, and service to veterans and their families.
The American Legion was founded in 1919 by veterans returning from World War I, seeking to continue their service to their country and fellow veterans. Post 72 was established to serve the veterans of Utah County, and has grown to become one of the most active posts in the state.
Throughout our history, we have been dedicated to the core values of the American Legion: veterans advocacy, a strong national defense, youth mentorship, and patriotic citizenship. Our members have served in every conflict from World War II to the present day, and we continue to welcome new generations of veterans into our family.
Our Mission
“For God and Country, we associate ourselves together for the following purposes: To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate a one hundred percent Americanism; to preserve the memories and incidents of our associations in all wars; to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses; to make right the master of might; to promote peace and goodwill on earth; to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy; to consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.”
